    TIBs System

    Run dry at 1200rpm
    40 times without damage

    Enhance new and old pumps

    Recover old and worn pumps

How does 'Second Breath' work? The Second Breath Rebuild Kit uses KPM's TIBSTMSystem (Thrust Interjacent Bearing and Seal) found in our Military endurance pump range. From our continuous research and development our engineers realised that damage occurs due to friction on the ends of the impeller which leads to damage and failure. As a result as the pump becomes older it wears either side of the impeller causing loss of vacuum

Will my pump run dry? Yes. The pump with a standard impeller will run dry quite happily in excess of 5 minuets at a speed of 1200 RPM without damage to the pump (exceeds SOLAS). The average time for a standard pump would be about half before destruction occurs. The second breath can withstand in excess of 40 x 5min dry starts (test stopped) without damage whilst maintaining prime and performance

Will it make my new pump last longer Yes

Do I need a special impeller? No

Will it work with my old pump? The Second Breath will restore your old pump if the impeller sits no more than 1mm below the cover face. The TIBS system will compensate for this wear. If your pump is beyond repair why not consider a KPM Endurance pump.

What if second breath wears? Simply replace the TIBs. These have been designed to be replaced when worn at low cost without the need of replacing the housing.

How much longer will my impeller last? KPM have customers that have run 1500 hours in sandy water of the Florida Keys, without having to replace the impeller. In 5 years KPM have never had a reported impeller failure. We do recommend that you inspect the impeller on an annual basis.
